Quarter Finals - Match #2: Lelouch vi Britannia vs Izaya Orihara

Round 1 – Brains
Welcome one and all to an epic battle of brains between the manipulative info broker of Ikebukoro, Izaya Orihara versus the Britannian genius, Lelouch vi Britannia, I do say that this will be interesting battle not only because both characters have the same English voice actor but because both are well known manipulators and geniuses in their own form, however which of the two are superior in the game that they are kings of? Let’s find out.

Izaya Orihara as seen in the Anime Durarara! Makes great use of his intellect and knowledge to manipulate situations and conflicts between various characters because he enjoys toying with people’s emotions by placing them in precarious and unorthodox situations, he has been responsible for many people disappearing, crime acts and has been involved in many acts of gang warfare. Throughout Durarara! Izaya basically controlled every action that had transpired in Ikebukoro to his liking with his amazing skills of deception and with the perks of being an info broker, his formal knowledge is unknown as no records have been recorded or documented of him in school however he showcases many attributes of being a devious master of the mind games, which in itself requires a fair amount of knowledge.

With that being said Lelouch vi Britannia is not so different as he possess the ability known as the Geass, the ability to control the minds of men. This ability basically gives Lelouch the power of hypnosis or mind control as long as he makes eye contact with the person he wants to control; Lelouch makes a large use of this ability within his Anime Code Geass as it aids him in covering his tracks, and easily acquiring useful allies and subordinates. However Lelouch has never relied on this ability alone as his vast intellect had helped him greatly to achieve his aspirations. He also uses his intellect to gain the trust of rebels and even start his own rebellion against a dominant country known as, Britannia. His skills in strategy and tactics are among the best in Anime history as he plays his battles like a chess game controlling the actions of his subordinates leading to great victories in war, Lelouch’s formal education is also among

Both men share the incredible ability to control people’s actions with their intellect alone, however Lelouch’s accolades and accomplishments truly ascend higher than any achievement that Izaya could ever pull off, as Lelouch managed to succeed in his goal by conquering the world with the Geass then saving it with a noble and valiant sacrifice. They both despicable in their own ways however Lelouch was a hero at heart and used the power of his intellect to fool everyone even the audience themselves, Izaya was a smart yet simple character who was mysterious at times but overall an evil character which didn’t manage to throw anyone off in the slightest, but he was still badass. Nonetheless the round of Brains goes to Lelouch vi Britannia.

Round 2 – Bronze

Now it’s time for the second round – Bronze, a battle in which both characters must showcase their combat ability, physical prowess and other unique abilities that can aid them in battle.

First off Izaya Orihara obviously has more experience in hand to hand combat due to his many battles with the infamous Shizuo Heiwajima, Izaya uses an array of knives as his weapons by throwing them to his enemy, he’s also shown great accuracy by successfully slicing the hinges of a building sign and using the debris to crush his opponents. He is also good using his knife in close quarters combat as he was seen to cut Shizuo’s midsection with ease which led their flaming rivalry. Izaya also has superhuman like speed and reflexes, being able to dodge aerial attacks from street signs and even using them to propel himself onto rooftops where he becomes even more lethal with his knives.

 He also has amazing endurance in battles and can even keep up with the toughest of fighters for long periods of time (eg. Shizuo), it also shows that his physical prowess is nothing less than amazing. But with all that being said I cannot say the same for Lelouch vi Britannia as he is not a very skilled fighter nor a common fighter at all, he has no experience in physical conflict and possess no skill or training when it comes to fighting. Lelouch does not have good endurance as he could never go running for more than five seconds without trying to catch his breath and doesn’t even have the strength to lift a person that weighs less than he does. It’s said that Lelouch focuses more on exercising his brain rather than his body, which explains his lack of physicality and because of this fact alone, Izaya easily dominates over Lelouch in the Bronze Round.

Round 3 – 1v1 Situation

 Scenario: Izaya Orihara is sitting in his building watching over the city of Ikebukuro until he overhears a radio broadcast covering news on a hostile takeover within the city, Izaya is intrigued and decides to head out and see who is taking over the city. He arrived in the centre of the city and finds giant mech like robots patrolling the streets, a squad of mechs then stop in the middle of a crowd as the cockpit of one mech opens. A man wearing a mask appears and introduces himself as Zero, he states that the Black Knights are taking control of Ikebukuro in a rebellious plan to overthrow Britannia; Izaya understands the situation however feels this to be a distraction in his own plans for the city.

The next day Izaya uses his connections to investigate the new citizens inside Ikebukuro, with no luck on adult citizens he then begins to tail all new transfer students and comes to the conclusion that new student Lelouch Lamprouge is connected to the Black Knights. He arrives to this conclusion of watching his amazing intellect in school and his superiority in chess, he also thinks he is Zero because of their similar build in size and posture. Izaya then assembles a group of thugs to apprehend Lelouch outside the school gate, meanwhile outside the gate Lelouch is seen leaving school whilst talking to his subordinates through a cell phone, the thugs then leap from a bush to catch Lelouch however he stops them and asks if they are in need of money. They reject Lelouch’s offer and attempt to apprehend him, however Lelouch quickly takes out his contact lens and uses his Geass on these thugs and asks them who sent them to capture Lelouch, they reply with the answer being Izaya Orihara, Lelouch then pulls out his gun and shoots all of the thugs. Izaya overhears that his thugs were killed by a subordinate of his who was watching, the subordinate explains that the thugs told Lelouch that Izaya had hired them however he does not know why they betrayed Izaya, Izaya is puzzled by this outcome and suggests that perhaps Lelouch bribed them and killed them as being loose ends.

The next day the Black Knights quickly storm through Izaya’s building in an attempt to apprehend him however he is nowhere to be seen, Lelouch is slightly frustrated by this predicament, Lelouch then hears the phone ring and answers it, it is revealed to be Izaya. Izaya tells Lelouch that he knows his identity and demands that Lelouch leave the city or else Izaya will reveal his secret. Instead Lelouch replies with a counter proposal and suggests that the two face each other in a chess game and whoever wins will decide the fate of the Black Knights. Izaya agrees on the terms that no third party get involved, they decide to meet in an abandoned factory where a table is set up with a chess board on it, and they begin their chess game. After a while it looks as if Izaya is going to win the game, however Lelouch makes a surprising move and claims the victory, Izaya is baffled and angry and pulls out his trusty knife to take out Lelouch once and for all, however Lelouch immediately uses his geass and orders Izaya to kill himself, Izaya then repeatedly stabs himself with his knife and dies of blood loss. Lelouch then takes a chess piece and announces “Check Mate” on Izaya.
